#ThrowBackThursday – Jerseyana Collection

tbtHashtags provide a number of useful ways to track topics and trends on social media, including the ability to fuel our obsession with nostalgia. Throwback Thursday, better known as #TBT, is a weekly reminiscent photo movement that has taken off globally. Building on this widely popular trend, NJSL has taken an otherwise hidden gem – its Jerseyana Collection – and socialized it using the hashtags #Jerseyana.

The State Library maintains an extensive collection of materials on all aspects of New Jersey, other than those found in the official documents collection, embracing its history, culture, people, geography, politics, etc. Many of these titles are held in multiple copies and represent the largest collection of circulating Jerseyana materials in the state. When you are looking for information on New Jersey, whether it is a basic textbook on state government, materials on the Lenni Lenape Indians or a novel set in New Jersey, you are likely to find it in this collection.

Through the #Jerseyana Throwback Thursday campaign, old postcards and historical images from our Jerseyana Collection are paired with clever and insightful quotes, and shared weekly with our many social media followers on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr.
